      DP info has a bapt for a child of Walter and Betty in Oct 1787 so I guess this was Walter.
    Gender Male
    Occupation From 1812 to 1818  St. Leonard’s Church, Sheepstor, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    Yeoman
    • At the time of his marriage.
      Shown as husbandman when his son George was baptised (1818), back to yeoman when son John baptised (1821)
    Poor Law 27 Apr 1830  St. Andrew’s Parish, Plymouth, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    Removal Order
    • The overseers of St. Andrew's Parish in Plymouth got an order for the removal of Walter and his family, to be removed to Sheepstor where they had a legal right of settlement.
      I understand that removal orders could be a precaution, obtained when it looked like a person or family might need support from a parish. Whether or not Walter and his family were returned to Sheepstor in 1830, they were clearly back in the Plymouth area by 1841, and he appears to have spent the rest of his life in the Plympton / Eggbuckland area.
    Residence 1841  No. 6, Hill Street, Charles, Plymouth, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • Walter & Maria Northmore were with 3 teenagers, probably their children: John (15), Richard (15) and Eliza (14) - all but Maria shown as labourers

      A number of other households were living in this same house; it is quite likely they were not related to Walter or Maria but in case of links they are listed below:
      elderly couple  Abraham (74) and Ann (66) Stumbles;
      Jane Bottyman (25) and 3 Bootyman children (5, 3, 8mths)
      Sarah Distin (35, widow - crossed out but probably because not relevant to what was wanted, not because wrong) with 2 year old Joseph;
      independant woman Louisa Pink (40);
      Ann Hingston (30) with 2 young children (William, 3 and Alfred, 8 mths)
      (In a city like Plymouth the women with young children may well have had husbands at sea)
    Occupation 1851  Plympton, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    Ag lab
    • From the census
    Residence 1861  Leigham Lodge, Eggbuckland, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • Walter and Maria were still living in a house by themselves and with no one else in the household
      (next census entry was Long Bridge, and the other side of that Leigham Mills; the other side in the census were 2 grander houses, both employing a number of servants - Leigham Vaim(?) and then Leigham House)
    Occupation 1861  Eggbuckland, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    Jobbing labourer
    • Living in Egg Buckland, I guess this is where Walter was working
    Died 6 Sep 1868  Plympton Reg Dist, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • GRO ref: Northmore, Walter, aged 89, q3 1868 Plympton 5b 157
      Actual date from gravestone

      Aged 52 at the time of the 1841 census Walter's age had been rounded up to 55 rather than down to 50 - a not uncommon mistake. But he was shown as age 67 in the 1851 census so may have thought his age a little more than it was (or I have it wrong - or there was another Walter born in Sheepstor, c 1783, that I haven't yet found). In the ten years to the next census Walter aged 15 years and was recorded as 82 (in 1861). He then aged at the usual rate, being recorded as aged 89 when he died 7 years later.
    Buried St. Edward’s Church, Eggbuckland, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • From "Eggbuckland Church gravstones", by J. Barber, quoted in Northmore Newsletter No. 7, p.15
      "Northmore Maria, 13 September 1866 aged 73.
      'Erected in memory of a beloved parent by her son Richard'
      Northmore Walter, husband of above, died 6th September 1898"
      [ I think the year should be 1868 not 98, probably mis-transcribed; I believe the age should be 80 not 89, but might well say 89 as it does in the death registration and is inaccurate in censuses. ]
    Siblings 4 brothers and 3 sisters
    Patriarch & Matriarch
    William NARRAMORE,   d. Yes, date unknown  (4 x Great Grandfather)
    Martha GILES,   b. Abt 1728,   bur. 3 Sep 1799, Walkhampton Church, Walkhampton, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location  (Age ~ 71 years)  (Grandmother)

    Bastardy Examination
    • In 1805 Walter Northmore "junior", labourer of Sheepstor, was named as the father of Sarah Gilberd's bastard child in a Bastardy Examination at Sheepstor (on 15th Oct.). I think it must be this Walter.
      The Examination was before the child was born; there does not seem to have been a baptism of a child of Sarah's at Sheepstor; either it was elsewhere or Sarah may have lost the pregnancy.
      I guess Sarah was the Sarah Gilbert baptised in Sheepstor on 1 Aug 1787 (i.e. the same age as Walter), who was herself illegitimate, and had a sister Mary born 1791, also illegitimate.
    Married? Not married or evidence to suggest they didn't marry
