I think his son was probably the William who married and died in Peter Tavy. That leaves only his grandson William for the 1730 burial amongst the Nutes that I know of in Marystow. As his grandson William was not born until about 1707 the burials cannot have been the other way around.
HOWEVER: there was a 'William Nate' who signed the protestation oath in Lewtrenchard in 1641. I guess he was the William who had children baptised there in 1617 and 1623 (at least), but if it was another younger William then it could have been him who was buried in 1697 and then this William could have been the one buried in 1730.

No Nute / Newte s in freeholder books data on FODA website in Milton Abbot.
(Marriage shown in FMP index in 1700 at Milton Abbot was actually banns in 1765!)
** lots of Nute married and buried in Buckland Monachorum, from mid 1600s, on Dartmoor Press index - has full marriage and burial data from 1538 so appear to have come from elsewhere in mid C17th. Could be where this Wm was from. BUT Buckland M baptisms are on FamilySearch and none there; also can't see any of the names Wm gave his children being used **
A few Nute entries in Tavistock - include some names used in family e.g. a Robert marr in 1642 - could be uncle or father of Wm
Wms bapt / parents marr could well fall in the Commonwealth gap
From early 1700s - Nutes in Peter Tavy; marriage of a William in 1715 - probably the William who was son of this William.

Census shows Wm a thatcher was b Cheriton Fitzpaine (nr Crediton) - chance that lived near these Nutes OR moved away and back again?

Earliest Devon Nutes on FMP (births) - Lewtrenchard (2 - Anne, 1617 and Barbressa, 1623; daus of Wm) and Plymouth (1) (all in 1st half C17th);
Lewtrenchard is very close to Marystow so there's likely to be a link.
There was also a Stephen Newte buried in Lewtrenchard in 1631. Stephen not a very common name, so very likely linked to this Wm.
The Lewtrenchard PR for this period has clearly been transcribed at some time (from handwriting maybe early C20th? was this by Sabine Baring-Gould?) In 1639 a Newte was Churchwarden in Lewtrenchard; the transcriber clearly couldn't read his Christian name, but it appears ?? NEWTE could write (entries in other years show 'mark of ...', this one doesn't)
Prot Oath - DevonHeritage website shows a Stephen NATE and a William NATE of Lewtrenchard signed.
In 1700s a few in Cornwood, Meavy, Walkhampton.
Meavy and Walkhampton children of John and Mary - could be from Marystow origins (or needn't be); names strongly suggest a connection to the Buckland M family - and location also makes this most likely.
