Notes - The Truscott Family
Was Margery related to the Lewtrenchard Truscott family - possibly daughter of the Rector, John Truscott?
Evidence I have seen for Truscotts in Lewtrenchard: a Court of Chancery case concerning the 'clerk' - I think the priest rather than the parish clerk - John Truscott, also mentions a Peter Truscott
CCEd website shows that 'Johannes Truscott' was instituted as Rector on 17 Oct 1692. The patron was Henry GOULD, gentleman (looking at Lewtrenchard entries in Discovery - TNA - Catalogue for the C17th most entries are Chancery Court case(s) to do with the GOULD family)
One Richard Carter was institued Rector on 4 May 1700, and at the same time someone unnamed was deprived for simony! I think this person deprived of office must have been John Truscott - it would seem to be in keeping with the Chancery Court case.
According to Sabine Baring Gould, in his "A Book of Folklore" (1913)
"... Susanna Gould, who was married in 1729 to Peter, son of John Truscott, rector of Lew Trenchard. Her father and the rector had never been on good terms, and her father resented the marriage. However, it took place, and she died on her way back from church, in her white wedding garments, and was buried four days later."
The London Gazette on 16 Aug 1720 recorded "John Truscott, late of Lew-Trenchard, alias Trenchard-Lew, Clerk" as an insolvent debtor (see thie GENUKI page)
