Ann LIGHT
Set As Default Person -
Name Ann LIGHT Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1712 Sheepstor, Devon, England
- While Light is a quite common name, at least in the area, Ann's marriage being in Sheepstor strongly suggests that she was the Ann batised there, the daughter of William and Mary.
Date and place assumed from baptism entry.
Baptised Jan 1712/13 St. Leonard’s Church, Sheepstor, Devon, England
- From PR entry (image on FMP):
Under heading "1712 Baptisms" - "Ann the daughter of William Light was baptized Jan." (rest of date illegible; 'Ann' not clear but I think that's what it says)
Gender Female Died 26 Dec 1793 Sheepstor, Devon, England
- Place assumed from place of burial, date from gravestone. The age given there is 78, implying that Ann was born in 1715; either the age is wrong, I have the wrong baptism or this is the grave of a different Ann.
The gravestone is close both to that of Mary Light, sister of this Ann, and to that of Mary, wife of Peter Reed, Peter being a grandson of Ann; these being in close proximity do strongly suggest that the grave is that of my ancestor Ann Reed nee Light.
Having double checked the baptism it is clearly 1712/13, I didn't misread the date. Since I don't know of a baptism between that of Mary who was baptised (and died) in Nov 1714, and William baptised in Dec 1717 there was 'room' for William and Mary to have had one or even 2 more. William's baptism was at Meavy; maybe the death of the first Ann and the baptism of another Ann was also not in Sheepstor.

Under 1707 Marriages - "William Light and Mary Barter were married Octr. 28th"
A Wm Light and a Richard Light appear and marry in Buckland Monachorum in 1743 and 1744 - 2 of the sons of Wm and Mary? - it would seem quite likely.
(There were quite a few Leighes in Buckland in the C17th but a gap of a few years - it may be that Williams family were from Buckland Monachorum a generation of 2 back)
