    Notes
    • (Research):Can't find a Stokenham-born William to match this one in the censuses. (If he had moved away by 1841 would be hard to identify him in that year's census)

There were 2 marriages in Stokenham that could be this Wm:
      to Mary Lambell Priter on 26 Apr 1835;
to Mary Ann Parker on 28 Nov 1821
The census suggests that the 1835 marriage was a William born about 1810-11, i.e. probably the son of Sampson and Mary.
The William who married in 1821 named his first son Samuel, suggesting he was more likely the son of Samuel and Mary, bapt 1798, rather than this William.
(Of course, Wm could have married elsewhere)

An unmarried William was living with the Elizabeth Stone who appears most likely to be his mother at the time of the 1841 census - it would be natural to assume it was this Wm, her son, only his age is given as 45, implying born c. 1791-96.
An unmarried William was living with Ann Stone, widow of this William's brother John in 1851. Shown as lodger, brother-in-law would seem likely - except shown as aged 70.
There was an illegitimate William bapt in Stokenham in 1793; perhaps it was this Wm.

"William Stone of this Parish Batchelor and Sarah Issel of this Parish Spinster were
Married in this Church by Banns
this 26th Day of July in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred
and Eighty Six by me Benjm Beynon [Curate]
This Marriage was The mark of + William Stone
solemnized between Us Betty Issell [signed]
      In the John Issell
      Presence of Samuel Kellond"
      (both witnesses signed)
SouthHams website has quite a few baptisms of children of "William and Elizabeth Stone" from 1787 to 1808, all in Stokenham, which I think were probably the children of this William and Betty.
There was also the bapt of a Wm Stone in 1785, son of Wm and Ebbet. I wondered if Ebbet was an abbreviation of Elizabeth, but the marriages register shows a Wm Stone married an Ebbet, also in 1785.
Also, in 1783 a Wm Stone married an Elizabeth Norris in Stokenham. It's possible some, or even all, of the children are theirs, but from Betty's sister Susanna's will I do know Betty and William had children.
