Mary Sladden<\/a> was a 7 x great grandmother of mine.<\/p>\n

A simple will. Mary outlived her husband and died leaving two (adult) children, but left everything to her daughter Mary. Much had already been split between her daughter Mary and son Charles by the will of her husband, but he specifically left his house in Lower Street in Deal to his wife for her lifetime, then “Then unto such of my said Children Mary Sladden and Charles Sladden as she my said Wife Mary Sladden shall in and by her last Will and Testament in Writing Give and bequeath the same unto”.<\/p>\n

Mary wrote her will a few months after her husband’s death, when she was living in Deal but lived another twenty years. She was buried, though, in Great Mongeham, where her daughter lived so I guess she had gone to live with her daughter later in her life; not surprisingly, since she was about 90 when she died and may well have been frail.<\/p>\n

In the Name of God Amen. <\/span>I Mary Sladden of the Parish
\nof Deal in the County of Kent Widow being in Health and of sound
\nMemory do hereby make and ordain this my last Will in Manner
\nand Form following that is to say I give all my Estate both
\nReal and Personal within the said County of Kent or elsewhere
\nparticularly that House in the lower Street in the Town of Deal in
\nwhich my late Husband Richard Sladden<\/a> dyed together with all
\nmy ready Money Household Goods Linen and Wearing apparrel
\nof every Kind whatsoever and wheresoever unto my Daughter
\nMary Sayer<\/a> Wife of Thomas Sayer of the Parish of Great Mongeham
\nin the County aforesaid and to her Heirs and Assigns for ever
\nwhom I also appoint Sole Executrix of this my last Will And
\nhereby revoking all former or other Wills by me heretofore made
\nI declare this only to be my Last Will and Testament this
\nTwenty Ninth Day of April 1751
\nSigned Sealed published and declared
\nby the said Mary Sladden the Testatrix for              Mary Sladden<\/i>
\nand as her last Will and Testament on
\nthe Day of the Date thereof in the Presence
\nof Us who have subscribed our Names as
\nWitnesses thereto.

\nand Mary Sayer (Wife of Thomas Sayer)
\nDaughter of the deced and sole Executrix
\ntherein named was sworn to the truth Late of Mongeham
\nthereof and also faithfully to perform the
\nsame &c. before me –<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Witness Samuel Shepherd<\/a> was probably the husband of Ann Sladden, second cousin of Mary’s husband, although it is possibly their son of the same name.<\/p>\n
