William married when he was nearly 40 to a woman of about 45; not surprisingly there were no children, and his wife died the year before him, probably shortly before he made his last will.<\/p>\n

With no wife or children, he left everything to one nephew, Charles Pitts, son of his sister Sarah, one of his many nephews and nieces. Sarah, like William, moved to Stoke Fleming in her twenties and lived there for the rest of her life. It is therefore probable that her children knew William better than did his other nephews and nieces, and maybe he had a particular bond with Charles, or perhaps Charles had helped out during his wife’s final illness.<\/p>\n

Whatever the reason Charles did not inherit a lot, William’s effects only amounting to £6:2:6.<\/p>\n

This is the last Will and Testament of me William Pike Issell<\/a> of Stoke Fleming in the County of Devon, Boot and Shoe Maker made this twelfth day of August One thousand eight hundred and ninety two.I will and direct the payment of all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses and subject thereto I give devise and bequeath All my real personal and testamentary estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever unto my nephew Charles Pitts<\/a> absolutely. And I appoint the said Charles Pitts sole executor of this my Will.I revoke all former Wills and declare this only to be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand the day and year before written.Signed by the testator William Pike       }

The Testator William Pike Issell was late of Stokefleming in the County of Devon, Boot and Shoe Maker, and died on the twenty first day of January 1893 at Stokefleming aforesaid<\/p>\n
