      Shown under heading 1755 but after August. Not clear if the baptisms were entered in the wrong order or the year entered late. Given the date of his parents marriage I think the latter is the case.The BTs also show this was in 1756 - although slightly confusingly under a heading 1755. Some headings make it clear that the year for BT purposes was about May to May, but 1755 was not long after the change for official purposes of the new year from Mar 25 to Jan 1, so Gilbert Yarde (the Rector) may not have got used to clarifying the year.

      One witness was William Bailey, who had a distinctive 'uphill' signature. It matches that on William's own marriage register entry, when he married in their home parish of Teigngrace, along with John's age strongly pointing to the marriage as being this John.
