Name Joseph BAILEY Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1761 Teigngrace, Devon, England Residence From 1762 to 1786 Teigngrace, Devon, England Baptised 3 Jan 1762 St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church, Teigngrace, Devon, England [1] - From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 2 Sep 2014)
Gender Male Residence From 1786 to 1807 Kingsteignton, Devon, England - * NEEDS EDITING due to more info * I am guessing that Joseph spent most of his adult life in Kingsteignton. Though he was born and baptised in Teigngrace, he married in Kingsteignton, all his children were born there and he was there with his son William at the time of the 1841 census. His death in Wolborough probably indicates that he went to a family member or possibly the Workhouse to be cared for in his last illness. He may have spent some of his childhood in Kingsteignton too - although all his known siblings were baptised in Teigngrace, the last known was baptised in 1770 when he was 8, so the family may have moved after that, or he may have latter moved for work or on marrying.
Poor Law 1807 Teigngrace, Devon, England Removal from Kingsteignton to Teigngrace - Removal order "Joseph Bailey, Elizabeth his wife and Mary Ann, 17, Susanna, 12, Diana, 10, William, 4, and Elizabeth, 1, their children to Teigngrace." (DHC document ref: 2565 A/PO 29/23; viewed at the DHC, 27 Jun 2019)
Prior to their removal Joseph was examined to establish his legal place of settlement, which would have become his wife's on marriage and which his children would have inherited from him.

the Church or poor rates, but has been informed that

to gain a Settlement
The Mark of
Joseph + Bailey
Taken and Sworn at Wolborough
Residence to 1841 Kingsteignton, Devon, England - Sometime between 1807 and 1841 Joseph moved back from Teigngrace to Kingsteignton.
Occupation Kingsteignton, Devon, England Labourer - His death cert. simply records him as a labourer; the 1841 census does not show any occupation - presumbaly because aged 80 he was no longer working.
If he lived most of his life in Kingsteignton this is likely to have been where he worked too.
Died 14 Dec 1843 Wolborough, Devon, England Cause: Decay of nature - Died aged 85 (sic). Is this the right death? I think so, there was no other Joseph Bailey of about this age in this part of Devon judging by the 1841 census.
GRO ref: Bailey, Joseph q4 1843 Newton A RD 10 121; GRO online index shows age at death as 85
Death certificate for Joseph Bailey Buried 17 Dec 1843 St. Michael’s Church, Kingsteignton, Devon, England - The burial being in Kingsteignton rather than Wolborough adds more evidence that the deat was of this Joseph.

Whilst most Bailey Teigngrace entries are this family, the Joseph who with his wife Elizabeth had a family there in the C19th was not the son of this Joseph, but of Joseph's brother William.
