Name Eliza BAILEY Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born 9 Apr 1874 75, Cleveland Street, Liverton Mines (als New London), Yorkshire, England - Actual date and place from the GRO birth registration entry and the 1939 register.
Although the 1881 census shows Eliza as having been born in Hetton le Hole, her birth registration shows she was actually born before her parents and the rest of the family moved from Yorkshire up to Co. Durham.
GRO ref: Bailey, Eliza q2 1874 Guisbro' RD 9d 470; GRO online index shows mother's maiden name as Jury
In the 1891 and 1911 censuses she is shown as born in New London, and in 1901 in London.
Liverton Mine was sunk by the New London Company (in about 1871), and consequently the settlement Liverton Mines was often referred to as New London.

Family Charles Johnson BELL, b. 16 Aug 1869, Easington Lane, Co. Durham, England , d. Dec Q 1949, Durham Central Reg Dist, Co. Durham, England (Age 79 years) Married Mar Q 1894 Sunderland Reg Dist, Co. Durham, England - GRO ref: Bell, Charles Johnson to BAILEY, Eliza q1 1894 Sunderland RD 10a 857
The 1911 census shows that by then Charles and Eliza had had 7 children but only three were still living. These 3 were Sarah, Luy and their second ELizabeth, all of whom were with them on census night. Two children must have been born and died between the 1901 and 1911 censuses. One of these would appear to be Ethel Maud, the other may well have been Charles Norman, although he could have been the 5th child they lost. If he was the 4th then he must have died just before the census, as a death was registered almost immediately, and his death was registered in q2 1911 i.e. no earlier than 1st April and census night was 2nd April.
There were several births of Bells with a mother's maiden name of Bailey in Gateshead district between 1901 and 1911, it seems there was another Bell there married to a Bailey, but Charles and Eliza could have had a child there, they clearly moved around (locally) a fair bit. If they had another child before 1911 then most likely they were born about 1904 when there is quite a gap between known children. There was a Thomas Henry whose birth was registered in q1 1905 in Gateshead district, but he does not appear to have died by 1911. There are quite a number of errors in the GRO online index (which includes the mother's maiden name); it could well be that either another Bell with a mother's maiden name of Bailey does not show up due to an error.
