Name John HUNT Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born 1738 Baptised 16 Apr 1738 St. Mary’s Church, Lenham, Kent, England Gender Male Poor Law 5 Feb 1778 Teynham, Kent, England Removal order - A removal order was issued for the removal of John Hunt, his wife Mary, and children, Mary (12), William (9), Sarah (6), John (4), Basil (1), from Teynham to Lenham, on 5 Feb 1778.
Perhaps in the end John managed to support his family and the removal wasn't needed, or maybe later he was able to and they moved back to Teynham. Either way, the family seem to have lived in Teynham at a later date.
Occupation Wheelwright Buried 27 Apr 1810 St. Mary’s Church, Teynham, Kent, England [1] Siblings 4 brothers and 7 sisters Patriarch & Matriarch John HUNT, b. Est 1665, d. Yes, date unknown (Grandfather)
Joan BASSILL, b. Abt 1645, (possibly), Charing, Kent, England , bur. 19 Mar 1711/12, St. Mary’s Church, Lenham, Kent, England (Age ~ 67 years) (Great Grandmother)Notes - Mentioned in his father's will (1771)
This is NOT the John who left a will proved in 1789, that must have been the John who died in 1788 aged "92" (acc to burial register - KFHS transcript). Actually, I suspect that was the John born 1693/4 in Egerton, i.e. aged 94.
There was a removal order for John with wife Mary and 5 children from Teynham to Lenham, 5 Feb 1778. As the removal was to Lenham and the family had a son called Basil I am guessing it was this John, grandson of Basil Becon.
Did the removal happen? There was a burial to match this John in Teynham, but not in Lenham; a William to match his son was also buried in Teynham, and may have had a large family bapt in Teynham (though there is also a burial for a Wm about 4 years older!)
The Canterbury Catherdral Archives also have a settlement certificate for John Hunt - I think this one. Dated 1762, it is for John, his wife Mary and son Richard, with Lenham as the place. (Ref. CCA-U3-146/13/8/324 but it is unfit for production so this is just the catalogue entry info.) - (Research):With the marriages just a few months apart in 1761, and a child of John and Rebecca baptised in 1762, and children of John and Mary baptised 1761 - 1776, it must have been two different John Hunts who married Mary Tilly and Rebecca Sparkes.
The marriage of John and Rebecca being in Lenham might suggest that was most likely this John, but the fact John and Mary named a son Basil strongly suggests that son was a descendant of Richard Hunt and Isabella Becon. The John who married Rebecca was probably John, son of John, probable 1st cousin of this John - he had been widowed in 1760, and with young sons would most likely have been anxious to re-marry to find help in caring for them.

Father Richard HUNT, [Parents?], b. Abt 1701, Maidstone, Kent, England , d. Apr 1771, Lenham, Kent, England (Age ~ 70 years) Mother Isabella BECON, b. Abt 1706, Lenham, Kent, England , d. Abt Feb 1771, Lenham, Kent, England (Age ~ 65 years) Married 15 Feb 1724/25 All Saints’ Church, Canterbury, Kent, England - From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 21 Feb 2013):
Under "Marriages" and "1724" - "Richard Hunt & Isabella Beacon both of Lenham _ _ } Feb: .5" - I think that the dot that appears before the 5 is all that remains of a '1', which agrees with information I was given regarding the marriage licence.
Marriage License 15 Feb 1724/25 Canterbury, Kent, England [2] - Shows Richard HUNT of Lenham, bachelor and lsabella BEACON, of the same parish, spinster could marry at Lenham or All Saints, Canterbury. Licence issued Feb. 15, 1724.

Family Mary TILLY, bur. 31 Mar 1801, St. Mary’s Church, Teynham, Kent, England Married 26 Jan 1761 Ss. Peter and Paul’s Church, Boughton under Blean, Kent, England - From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 17 Apr 2018)
Shows John Hunt of Feversham Batchelor married Mary Tilly 'otp' Spinster, married by Licence, both signed.
Witnesses John Frederick Johnson and Henry Tilly both also signed.
I think this is probably the marriage of this John. The date is a likely one, giving the birth of their first known child, and the fact he was of Faversham makes it likely, given that that appears to be where they lived after marriage.
(An Eleanor was buried in 1787 described as "wife of John", b c 1737 from age given - had John been widowed and remarried? No, it is clear there were 2 different Johns - the marr of widow John to widower Eleanor was in 1771; the removal of John and Mary and family was in 1778!)
Other possibilities
Possibly the marriage on 20 Nov 1765 at St Margaret's Church in Canterbury (on FamilySearch website). The 'Mary' of that couple was Mary Cullen. The finding of the settlement certificate suggests, though, they were married by 1762.
More likely the John Hunt who married Mary Fry at Sutton Valence on 30 Dec 1760:
HUNT John Ba of Minster to FRY, Mary Sp otp, by Licence; witnesses: ? and R Norwood (witness to many -probably parish clerk)
The John who married Mary Fry was of Minster. I think this probably means Minster in Sheppey - about 16 miles from Lenham, while the Thanet Minster is 30 miles; also, Minster in Thanet is a small village, Minster in Sheppey was a town with a thriving ship-building industry. Not the most obvious place for a wheelwright to work, but I think it likely John could have found work there. It is quite some distance from Sutton Valence, while the latter is near Lenham, so he probably knew Mary before moving to Minster.
It would be likely that John and Mary would return to Minster to live after the marriage. Are there any children baptised for a John and Mary in Minster? There are several in the 1770s (1770, 1775 and 1777). The 10 year gap between the marriage and the first of these suggest it was probably a different couple, though it could have been that they had other children elsewhere.
