Name John TRANT Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born East Allington, Devon, England Baptised 28 Nov 1740 St. Andrew’s Church, East Allington, Devon, England - ** Please note: parents not named, I am just guessing he was the son of John and Dorothy **
date from online index - it says parents names not given!
Gender Male Died Yes, date unknown Buried - No age, abode or other details in the PR (acc to the South Hams website), I suspect that this was the burial of the John who was married to Elizabeth Foal. The only other burial of a John Trant in Sherford was in 1781, but John and Elizabeth had children after this date so that can't be this John.
Siblings 5 brothers and 3 sisters Patriarch & Matriarch John TRANT, b. Est 1715, d. Abt Oct 1781, Sherford, Devon, England (Age ~ 66 years) (Father)
Richord, b. Est 1673, d. Nov 1741, Blackawton, Devon, England (Age ~ 68 years) (Grandmother)Notes - I was guessing John may have been a son of John and Dorothy - bizarrely neither of his parents are named in the PR (acc to South Hams website) - no BTs for East Allington appear to have survived between 1700 and 1814 so they can't be checked for parent(s) name(s).
Now having learnt that John and Dorothy married in 1740/41 this seems unlikely. Although Trant was clearly a rare name in the area at this time, and could have been in Sherford prior to 1713, there are no baptisms, burials or marriages of a Trant in Sherford from the earliest surviving records in 1713 until 1749.
n.b. I did think this John was likely to have been married to Elizabeth Foal, now, although this is still possible, I think it more likely it was the John bapt in South Pool 1743.
The names Trowt and Trant can look similar and are sometimes mis-transcribed, so seeing the actual entry to see how clear it is is a priority.
I did think he might be the son of Philip and Sarah - but have found their marriage also in 1741.
No other Trants bapt in E Allington 1724 to 1812 so suggests family lived or moved elsewhere.
The only Trant couples I've found having children in the 1740s are Philip & Sarah and John & Dorothy. If there was another couple they are elusive. Or maybe this John was illegitimate - hence parents not being shown.

Shown as 1741 and says date converted to NS.
Assuming this is correct it is unlikely the John Trant baptised in 1740 was the son of this couple, unless an error was made in when he was baptised.
