Shown as grandson of Charles and Jane in the 1891 census, and as their son in 1901, it seemed probable he was an illegitimate son of one of their daughters. There is a register of the effects of soldiers who died in WW1; this shows his mother was Elizabeth Jane (by then Perkins).

Died 11 Dec 1915 Hospital Ship Takada, At Sea - The December 18th 1915 issue of the East Kent Gazette mentioned the death of a Walter Goatham who died on the hospital ship Takada, the youngest son of the late Mr Charles Goatham of 80, West St Sittingbourne, aged 26.
