Occupation From 1880 to 1901 Builder's labourer - In the 1881 and 1891 censuses, and described as 'bricklayer's labourer' when on his daughter Annie Rebecca's death register entry
Residence From 1881 to 1891 2, Orchard Lane, Sittingbourne, Kent, England - A grandson was with the family in 1891: Walter George Goatham, age 1 (illegitimate son of his daughter Elizabeth).
Military Service From 1886 to 1897 Army - have info, will be added to this tree in time.
Residence From 1900 to 1911 80, West Street, Sittingbourne, Kent, England - Sometime between the 1891 census and March 1900 Charles and Jane and family moved to 80, West Street where Goathams would live to 1963.
The house was shown in 1911 as having 4 rooms, but this excludes various rooms including scullery, bathroom and shop.
When the property was up for sale in 1900 it was described as having 6 rooms and a cellar. Given that in 1911 Charles was working from home as a greengrocer it seems safe to assume that the shop was one of the two rooms not counted in the 1911 census. In the 1901 census entry there is no sign of a business being run from the premises so the shop may have been part of the living space.
In 1901 Charles was with his wife and shown as with 5 sons. Four are their four youngest sons (one aged 20, the others teenagers), but the youngest, 11 year old Walter, was actually the illegitimate son of their daughter Elizabeth.
Living with his wife and son James in 1911.
Occupation 1902 Gardener - Acc to his son Wms marr cert
Occupation 1911 Greengrocer (working for himself) - He was shown as a greengrocer on his daughter Margaret's death certificate in 1894. Possibly he had the business but it was run by his wife, so he was free for other occupations.

"William Goatham Bacheler and Charlotte Evans Spinster [sic] ..."
Married 15 May 1841 St. John the Baptist Church, Bredgar, Kent, England - GRO ref: GOATHAM, William to EVANS, Charlotte q2 1841 Milton RD 5 441
Details from PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 20 Jun 2019)
Charlotte was shown as a widow when she married William, with her father named as 'Robert Barrel', though 'Barrel' seems to be a mistake for 'Barrow'. Her maiden name is variously shown as Barrow or Evans on the birth certificates of her children (information from the GRO online index, viewed 5 Nov 2016).
The censuses show Charlotte was born about 1817 in Faversham and there is a Charlotte Barrow who fits this perfectly. In addition, in the 1841 census Charlotte Barrow's mother is living in Bredgar very close to William and Charlotte (just a couple of entries apart on the census), with an Aylett family. It seems that Charlotte's sister Ann had married one John Aylett in 1834, and Ann's mother was with them. I think it probable that after Charlotte was widowed by the death of her 'Evans' husband she went to live with or at least visited her mother and sister in Bredgar, and thus got to know neighbour William Goatham.
William was still shown as married not a widower in the 1871 census, but Charlotte was not with him and their 3 youngest. She was living in her birthplace Faversham when she died; whether she had left him and was there in 1871 I don't know.
