    • George may well have been the Parish Clerk up until he left Bredgar, probably in the 1860s, unless he was suffering from ill-health before this. Usually it was a post for life, but George left the parish before this. The PRs may gives clues as to when he became the parish clerk and when he ceased to act as such - not yet studied. Certainly by 1843, the earliest record of which I know so far recording his in this role.
      At the same time as carpenter - recorded as such at baptism of his youngest in 1843, also 1851 census and when his wife Lucy died (given as his sole occupation on her death cert.)

    • I think it was probably the George Goatham who church accounts show to have been paid in 1844 for making changes to the gallery to accomodate the organ.
