Name Mary H. HODGE Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1810 Blackawton, Devon, England - From the 1851 census where shown as aged 40
Baptised 9 Jul 1810 St. Michael’s Church, Blackawton, Devon, England [1] - Is the baptism this Mary? Her grandfather's will together with census info. points to Mary being born around 1810 in Blackawton, so I think this is Mary despite the parents being shown as John and Mary.
Gender Female Residence 1841 South Street, Minster, Sheppey, Kent, England - The household consisted just of John and Mary at the time of the 1841 census
Residence 1861 2, Clarence Place, Stoke Damerel, Devon, England - With her husband and 3 children.
Another household with 2 people at the same address.
Residence From 1881 to 1891 11, Clarence Place, Stoke Damerel, Devon, England - In 1881 Mary was living just with her husband. There were 3 other households at the same address, including Mary and John's son John L and his family.
Mary was still just with her husband in 1891, but there was now only one other household at the same address (not their son)
Died Yes, date unknown Siblings 1 brother and 2 sisters Patriarch & Matriarch John HODGE, d. Yes, date unknown (Grandfather)
Wilmot, b. Est 1691, d. Mar 1762, Blackawton, Devon, England (Age ~ 71 years) (2 x Great Grandmother)Notes - (Research):There were inevitably quite a number of couples named John and Mary Evans. Since there is no sign of one with a Mary born in Slapton this one with a Mary born Blackawton seems the most likely (I am looking for one whose father was "a blacksmith of Slapton" with a mother born in Blackawton).

Father William HODGE, b. Abt 1783, Slapton, Devon, England , d. 5 Sep 1852 (Age ~ 69 years) Mother Mary HAMBLING, b. Abt 1790, Blackawton, Devon, England , d. 27 Mar 1818 (Age ~ 28 years) Married - Checked DFHS CDs for Totnes and Woodleigh Deaneries and I don't think I've found this marriage (searched for all marriages of a William Hodge or Hodges, also searched for abbrev Wm)
The only possibility is HODGES WILLIAM to MOREY MARY on 07 08 1809. This would require Mary to have been a widow aged 20 when she married William.

Wills (transcripts) The will of Mary's grandfather, James Hambling
Mary was left £5 to be paid to her at the end of 1 year after her grandfather's death, i.e. in July 1838.
Mary was also left a quarter of her grandmother's "wearing apparel". Three other granddaughters of James were to receive the rest - and the drawing of lots would decide who got what! James died just 10 months after his wife; whether he hadn't got around to giving his wife's clothes due to this relatively short gap, or whether he could bring himself to deal with them one can only guess at.
