  • Name John PEPPERELL
    Suffix [ONS gp] [Parents?]
    Relationshipwith Teresa Ann GOATHAM
Born Est 1630  (probably), Slapton, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • Date based on date of marriage. Parentage unknown, am guessing he may be a son of William and Johan as they had children (or at least a child) born in the 1630s.
    Gender Male
Died Nov 1669  Slapton, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • (assumed from burial)
Buried 14 Nov 1669  St. James’ Church, Slapton, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • Possible burial from PR entry, image on FMP (viewed 2014)
There was also a John buried 29 Dec 1665, which seems to shown John as 'of Costin'. If as I think the East Allington baptisms were of children of this John then that can't be his burial.
The 1669 burial gives no clarifying info. - possibly because 'the other John' had already died, there was not seen to be any need.

John was probably still quite young - it may be that neither of these burials are this John.
A John married an Elizabeth Hodge in 1679 - was it this John marrying his 3rd Elizabeth? In the PRs I've not found a possible burial of the second prior to this but not all burials are legible and there are missing years.

    Notes
    • (Research):This is just a guess that John was the son of Wm and Johan, as this couple had a son, Nicholas, bapt in Slapton in 1638 i.e. at around the right time to be a brother of John's. And a record of his birth / baptism could be missing due to start of Civil War.

There was a John bapt in Dartmouth (St. Saviours) in 1632, son of John, and there could be lots more in  parishes for which neither PRs not BTs survive for this period.

    • From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 10 Dec 2015)
"John Pepperell widdower and Elizabeth Harvey of Harberton were married the 27th of October"
Shown as widdower, adding weight to the theory it was this John who had first married to Elizabeht Codd in 1657
Are the East Allington baptisms children  of the same John? With such common parents names as John and Elizabeth there could have been another couple. The marriages for East Allington 1607-1669 are currently not online, so cannot see if there were Pepperell marriages there in that period, nor are deaths for an appropriate time online.
