Walter BOORMAN

-
Name Walter BOORMAN Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Mar Q 1843 Harrietsham, Kent, England - Place and approximate date from censuses
("Of Wormshill" when he married)
GRO ref: Boorman, Walter q1 1843 Hollingbourne RD 5 283; GRO online index shows mother's maiden name as GOOD
Gender Male Occupation From 1863 to 1877 Wheelwright - Recorded at marriage, in the 1871 census and at baptisms of children to 1877. Lots of Boormans were wheelwrights, but of course the demand for wooden wheels was to fall during Walter's working life.
Occupation From 1879 to 1891 Carpenter - First discovered described as carpenter instead of wheelwright when a son was baptised in 1879, found in 1881 in the census and at the baptism of his youngest child.
A carpenter employing 5 men in 1881, Walter is shown as 'employed' rather than 'employer' in the 1891 census. In 1901 he was described as a joiner.
Died Mar Q 1908 Medway Reg Dist, Kent, England - GRO ref: Boorman, Walter q1 1908 aged 63 Medway RD 2a 482
Notes - "William" on 1881 census, born Wormshill (and Emily born Harrietsham!) but I think these are mistakes.

Family Emily HUNT, b. Mar Q 1844, Wormshill, Kent, England , d. Mar Q 1925, Medway Reg Dist, Kent, England
(Age ~ 81 years)
Married 1 Aug 1863 St. Giles’ Church, Wormshill, Kent, England - Being a widow the information was not required, but luckily for us as it often was the information about length of marriage and children was filled in on the 1911 census. Sadly it shows that Emily had had 11 children with Walter, only 5 of whom were still living.
The 4 I hadn't found in censuses died in infancy, being born and dying between the same censuses so not appearing in any.
Very sadly so many Boormans died in infancy I can't work out from the BMD registrations which 4 children these were.
However, the baptisms at Wormshill and Rainham provide the answers.
