Name Thomas BELLETT Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1838 East Prawle, Chivelstone, Devon, England
- Shown as aged 3 in the 1841 census.
Shown variously as born in Prawl or Chivelstone, which suggests to me that the birth was in East Prawle which is in the parish of Chivelstone. The family's abode being shown as Prawl at the time of his baptism seems to confirm this.
There is a smaller West Prawle, as well as Prawle Point, so the whole area may have been referred to as Prawle and Thomas may not have been born in the hamlet.
Baptised 22 Apr 1838 St. Sylvester’s Church, Chivelstone, Devon, England - From DFHS CD, Thomas Bellett, son of Thomas (a labourer) and Joanna, abode East Prawle
Gender Male Occupation 1851 Farm servant Occupation 1861 Fisherman Occupation From 1871 to 1881 Mariner - Shown in censuses as master of the Lance (1871); master of "Mystery" (1881) (living in Brixham on both occasions)
Probably the Thomas mentioned in a Register of Shipping for the Port of Brixham (1864 -1872):
"'Four Brothers' 27291, sailing vessel, sloop, built at Galmpton in 1859, transferred from Dartmouth, converted to a coal hulk in 1890, title owned by Maria Pellow Green, William Green, Thomas Bellett."
