  • Notes  Married:
    • Assumed from marriage licence.
Thomas's mother Mary left bequests to her grandsons Thomas Apslye and George Apsly and to "there five bretheren". This suggests that by 1617 Thomas and Dorothy had had seven sons who were then living. The absence of a mention of any daughters suggests if they had had any they had died, but it is possible that 'brethren' was being used as male forms often are to include the female when there is a mixture of the two, and that the five unnamed included daughters as well as sons.

    Marriage License:
    • From Cowper's marriage licences (vol 1, col. 12):
Thomas of Benenden mar 1601 -
      "Apseley, Thomas, of Benenden, clothier,
      and Dorothy Marcklye of Marden,
      v. At St. Margaret's, Cant. Feb.
      15. 1601."
