The will of Philip Inman (1818 - 1894)

one of my great great grandfathers

This is my last Will and Testament of me Philip Inman of Kirkgate in Knaresbrough in the County of York Rate Collector I appoint my sons John Inman of 91 St. George's Square of W. London and Frederick Inman Parish Clerk of Kirkgate Knaresbrough their heirs executors or assigns sole Executors and Trustees of this my Will after all my funeral expenses and all just debts are paid

I give devize and bequeath unto John Inman Frederick Inman Mary Leadston Hannah Shaw my natural daughter all by Sarah Inman my first wife And to Hannah Inman my second wife All my real and personal estate of every nature and description whatsoever and wheresoever according to the respective tenures nature and quality thereof and all shares stocks and monies from all sources whatsoever and wheresoever in equal shares parts or portions

And I direct that in the event of the decease of either of my sons John Inman or Frederick Inman that the share part or portion of my estate which he would have been entitled to be equally divided between his children who shall be then living and to the issue of such of them as shall be then dead such issue taking the share which the parent would have been entitled to if living to and for their own use absolutley

And I further direct that the shares parts or portions of Mary Leadston and Hannah Shaw be held in trust for the term of their natural life and at the decease to be divided equally between their children absolutley including Charles Middleton Inman the natural son of Hannah Shaw

and I further direct that the share part or portion of Hannah Inman my second wife be held in trust so long as she shall remain my widow and in the event of her marrying again or at her decease her share part of portion to be equally divided between my children by her including Laura Bickerdyke her natural daughter when they shall have the benefit of the said share for the term of their natural life

And I empower my executors to allow my wife Hannah Inman to occupy a cottage in Kirkgate or any other cottage on the estate untill my youngest child by her attains the age of twenty one years [1913] rent free unless she Hannah Inman marry again

And I hereby revoke all Wills by me at any time heretofore made
In witness whereoff I have hereunto set my hand this thirty first day of August one thousand eight hundred and eighty nine.

Signed published ad declared by the said testator as and for his last Will and Testament in presence of us who at his request in his presence and in presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses

On the 26th day of June 1894 Probate of this Will was granted at Wakefield to John Inman and Frederick Inman the Executors.

Be it known that at the date hereunder written the last Will and Testament of Philip Inman of Kirkgate Knaresbrough in the County of York Assistant Overseer and Rate Collector deceased, who died on the fifth day of April 1894, at Knaresbrough aforesaid and who at the time of his death had a fixed place of abode at Knaresbrough aforesaid within the District of the West Riding of the County of York was proved and registered in the District Probate Registry of Her Majesty’s High Court of Justice at Wakefield and that Administration of the personal estate of the said deceased was granted by the aforesaid Court to John Inman of 42 Chelsea Gardens Pimlico in the County of Middlesex Merchant’s Clerk and Frederick Inman of Knaresbrough aforesaid Joiner the sons of the said deceased Executors named in the said Will they having been first sworn well and faithfully to adminster the same.
