Horrabridge

Notes:
One possible meaning of 'Horra' is boundary, and the name makes it clear there is a bridge here, indicating a river crossing (over the River Walkham, as it happens). Features such as rivers often form a boundaries, parish as well as county, etc. often follow features such as rivers, so with these too indicators it is not surprising to learn that historically Horrabridge fell in more than one parish. What is more surprising is to learn that parts of this village were in no less than 4 different parishes: Buckland Monachorum, Sampford Spiney, Walkhampton and Whitchurch.

This page shows all know events in Horrabridge, but there were almost certainly others; in many cases with baptisms, marriages and burials in the above 4 parishes there is no record of where in the parish the person lived.
