- Which Nathaniel married Elizabeth - this one or the one baptised in 1757?
I have now found plenty of evidence pointing to it being this Nathaniel who married Elizabeth Whidborne; I think it was this Nathaniel because:
- of the names Nathaniel and Elizabeth gave their sons - the Christian names being the same as those found in this Nathaniel's family and this Nathaniel's maternal grandfather being named 'Nathaniel Harris' the name of the couples first son;
- of the social standing of this Nathaniel's family - appears more in line with Elizabeth's;
- this Nathaniel's sister Martha married Elizabeth's brother Richard so the families were clearly in contact;
- a number of members of this Nathaniel's siblings families moved to the Liverpool area, like his son Thomas (though the other Nathaniel's great nephew probably died in Liverpool too, so can't attach much weight to this);
- Thomas Gotham, father of this Nathaniel, had a grandson Thomas (named in his will); I don't know who this would be if the family were that of the other Nathaniel.
