      Hardwicke entry:
Shows William Gottheam of this Parish married Anne Cumming 'of the same', married by Banns, William signed, Anne made her mark, witnesses John Rosse and Joseph Mathers (both signed)
      Short entry:
"30 Married William Goth^eam & Anne Cumming" - under headings for 1772 and January.
There were two cousins named William of a similar age, both baptised in Wolborough, this one in 1740 and his younger cousin in 1751. Both would have been old enough to have married Anne Cumming in 1772. It is clear that the William with a sister Elizabeth who left a will in 1827, i.e. the one baptised in 1751, was still alive in 1827, and the will names children of William and Joanna, so that William was cleaerly the one who married Joanna Bennett in Combeinteignhead in 1752. Also, being alive in 1827 he can't have been the one who married Anne Cumming.
It is clear from his will and his widow's subsequent remarriage that it was the William who died on the Ceres who married Anne Cumming.
