    • The family was living in  Bedford Bridge Cottages when his fsister Hannah was born in 1864, his father, Samuel, at that time was a "mine labourer". Bedford Bridge is about half a mile north of Horrabridge, a couple of miles from Buckland Monachorum village; the main industry in Horrabridge was copper and tin mining.

Clearbrook is a hamlet someway from Buckland Monachorum village, though in the Parish. The hamlet is believed to have become established due to mining in the 1850s, and mining was the main source of employment. Samuel may have worked both on the land and in the mine according to the season.

In Kyo parish, in 2 rooms of 12 South View, Annfield Plain, in 1901 with wife, 2 children and "nephew & nephew's wife" (appear to be wife's relations as all from North Wales). (another family in the other 3 rooms in the house)
