Name William BURGOIN Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1722 Blackawton, Devon, England - (assumed from baptism)
Baptised 20 Nov 1722 St. Michael’s Church, Blackawton, Devon, England - exact date hard to read
Gender Male Occupation Taylor Died Aft 1788 - Left a bequest in the will of his wife's aunt by marriage, Jane Bellamy nee Harris, which was written 23 Sep 1788.
Buried - Probably either the William Burgoin buried in Blackawton on 21 Jan 1798 or the one buried there on 4 Jan 1809 (he would have been aged 75 or 86)
From PR entries (images on FMP, viewed 21 Jun 2015)
Notes - There were 2 couples 'William and Mary' - having children at the same time in Blackawton in the 1740s and 1750s; one William was a tailor and one a husbandman.
The will of Jane Bellamy of Blackawton (writtten and proved in 1788) mentions 'my brother in law William Burgin of Dartmouth, tayler' and mentions her kinswomen [the daughters of this William] including Ann Hamlyn wife of James Hamlyn of Blackawton, confirming my theory that my ancestor William was the tailor (based on dates of baptisms of children). The Bellamy wills confirm the marriage of my ancestors, William to Mary Bellamy, and in any case the marriage of William Burgoin to Mary Bellamy is too late to be that of William the husbandman and his Mary.

Father John BURGING, bap. 13 Aug 1682, St. Leonard’s Church, Halwell, Devon, England , d. Apr 1752, Blackawton, Devon, England
(Age ~ 69 years)
Mother Mary FRIEND, b. 1681, d. Yes, date unknown Married 27 Aug 1704 St. Michael’s Church, Blackawton, Devon, England - Although being in Blackawton makes this seem the most likely marriage of John and Mary, parents of the children shown, there was another marriage of a John and Mary in Halwell the previous year. It is clear from the registers there was a good bit of movement of people between Halwell and Blackawton, so it would be good to be able to rule the Halwell couple out, bu so far I haven't been able to. Burgoin was not a common name in that parish; there was a burial of a Mary there in 1767, but no other entries that could be the couple who married in 1703 or their parents.

Married 26 Dec 1746 St. Michael’s Church, Blackawton, Devon, England - The other William and Mary, that William being a husbandman, started their family in Blackawton with a baptism on 21 May 1745, so this can't be their marriage.
