  	GRO ref: POWELL, William to Glassby, Margaret q4 1869 Sheppey RD 2a 1235 While the marriage registration index shows Margaret as a GLASSBY, her maiden name is shown as CLASPER in the birth registrations of all of her children. Had Margaret been previously married to a Glassby? - I can find no such marriage, perhaps it was a mishearing of Clasper, especially if said in a Mackem accent.

Married by Banns, both signed, as did witnesses, John Henry Powell and Elizabeth Emma Powell. Mary's grandfather was William Goatham but he was not a Mariner; I suspect she was thinking of her step-father William Pysing, but omitting to mention he was her step-father, not her father, and so that he had a different surname.
