Mary appears in the 1881 census with one Sarah Goldsmith, age given as 23, who I believe was the widow of Walter Goldsmith, and born Sarah Goatham. They were both with a William Pysing, aged 22, to whom Mary was described as step-daughter, although Sarah was not yet his wife (William and Sarah married a few months later)

  	From report of funeral in : "MRS. WILLIAM POWELL The funeral was conducted from Thorpe Brothers' Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon for Mary Goatham widow of William Powell. The service was conducted by Rev. A. A. Maloney of St James' Anglican Church, assisted by Rev. H. L. Jennings. There were numerous floral tributes, testifying that Mrs. Powell and family had many friends. Pallbearers were: James Lundie, Allan Barr, Herbert Kitchen, John McGuire, Sidney Wraight and Charles Craft. Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery."

Married by Banns, both signed, as did witnesses, John Henry Powell and Elizabeth Emma Powell. Mary's grandfather was William Goatham but he was not a Mariner; I suspect she was thinking of her step-father William Pysing, but omitting to mention he was her step-father, not her father, and so that he had a different surname.
