Probate 1692 Name Attonie = Attained? - The Burr name is not common in Marden, so at first I though Attonie was probably a spelling variant of Anthony, as the Burrs on this tree were probably related to the Anthonie Burr whose widow's burial can be found in Marden PRs in 1583. Anthony was an unusual Christian name at the time and I suspected that Attonie was being named after the earlier Anthonie.
However, there then seems to be a pronunciation variant as well as a spelling one, as the name is recorded everywhere else as At(t)ained. There certainly seems to be no baptism of an Attained in Marden, and Attonie vanishes from the records. While Henry could have had a son Attonie / Anthony who died in childhood and an Attained who survived it seems almost certain that they are one and the same. Maybe he should always have been 'Attained' and the baptism register is in error; possibly the transcription I saw was in error.
Looking a little at his mother's family, it seems that she probably had a brother named Attained, and it was probably after him that this Attained was named - possibly his uncle Attained was this Attained's godfather.
The name seems to have confused the scribe who wrote up the will of his uncle William Burr, for Attained is described there as a daughter of Henry!
