a neighbours' quarrel.
Beatrice Goatham, wife of Amos Goatham, jun., dealer, was summoned for assaulting Flossie Small, a single woman, on the 19th ult. There was also a cross summons. - It appeared from the evidence that the parties were neighbours, living in Westgate Road, and their back yards adjoined. For the purpose of keeping her children from running into the road Mrs. Goatham erected a stile. On the day in question Flossie Small removed the stile with the idea of getting on to her own ground, when Mrs. Goatham used bad language and struck her three times. On the other hand Mrs. Goatham stated that Flossie Small deliberately threw the stile down, and when asked by her to replace it she said she would hit her over the head with it, and struck her with her fist. Evidence was called by both parties, and eventually the Bench dismissed the case, the Chairman remarking that it was "Six to one and half a dozen to the other." "
