    • GRO ref: Stevens, Maud M to Holness, Bertie q4 1922 Milton RD 2a 2328

In 1922 a Maud M Stevens married a Bertie Holness in Milton Reg Dist. Was this Maud Mary marrying as a Stevens rather than her birth name of Goatham? I believe it was. Whilst Stevens is a fairly common name, there were few Maud Ms and none that I can see born in Milton RD. But with a common surname maybe one had moved in from elsewhere? However, checking death entries it does appear to be this Maud. The only death of a Maud M Holness registered in Kent was in Q3 1968 and shows Maud was aged 68, i.e. born 1899 or 1900. It was in Chatham RD; had the Maud married to Bertie moved there (or was in hospital there?). It would appear so. Her husband being formally called Bertie can easily be identified almost certainly  in birth and death records. And he too died in Chatham RD.
In summary, I believe we can be pretty confident that the Maud M Stevens who married Bertie was born about 1900, and so can be similary confident it was this Maud Mary.

There appear to have been no children from the marriage. There were 2 Holness children born in Dartford RD in the 1920s where the mother's maiden name was Stevens, but there was another Holness = Stevens marriage in Dartford RD also in 1922. No other Holness children with mother's maiden name recorded as Stevens or Goatham who could be children of this marriage.
Family This couple had no children together
