Richard HALKE

-
Name Richard HALKE Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Bef 1518 - Based solely on an estimate of the date of birth of son George I would have made a very rough estimate of about 1530. However, since I believe he was the 'elder' referred to when a Richard was buried in 1578 and earlier then he must have been older than him, and the IPM when the other Richard's father died suggests that that Richard's dob was about 1518.
With his father dying about July 1519 he cannot have been born later than about March 1519/20.

Will 18 Mar 1587/88 Written - Amended 10 Aug 1590
Buried 15 Aug 1590 St. Mary the Virgin’s Church, Elham, Kent, England - From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 28 Dec 2015)
"Rychard haukes Wyddowr. Buryed the 15th August"
Although this Richard was described as 'of Wye' when he wrote his will, and specified he should be buried in the church there, I think this burial is probably him as:
- there is no burial at the right time (between the will being written and proved) in Wye;
- the burial was just a few days after an amendment to the will - wills were commonly written or proved shortly before death;
- Richard's son George married in Elham and at least one of George's children was baptised there, which would give a reason for Richard to be buried there (he may have moved to life with George before his death).
Probate 13 Jan 1590/91 Died - Between 10 Aug 1590 and 13 Jan 1590/91.
Said in Court of Chancery case of 1597 to have left a will dated about 6 years before (TNA ref: C2/Eliz/H13/21)
Will itself shows he must have died between 10 Aug 1590 (when amendment made) and 13 Jan 1590/1 (when it was proved).
Patriarch & Matriarch John HALKE, b. Est 1433, d. 1492, Wye, Kent, England(Age ~ 59 years) (Great Grandfather)
Johan, d. Aft 1519 (Mother)Notes - Named as father of George in a Court of Chancery case of 1597 (TNA ref: C2/Eliz/H13/21)
The above Chancery case refers to his will; I have seen the will of Richard of Wye written 1588, amended 1590 and proved 1590/1; from the names of son and grandsons it is clear it is the will of this Richard.
The overseers accounts (the 'old book of Wye') has references to Richard the elder and Richard the younger in the second half of the C16th - this would seem to be 'Richard the elder' (in the will of the other Richard, written 1578, he describes himself as 'Rycharde Hawke the younger of Wye'.

Father John HALKE, b. Est 1490, d. 1519 (Age ~ 29 years) Mother Johan, d. Aft 1519 Married - In his will John only mentions his wife and father, no son, but I am guessing that he had a son Richard, maybe not born or the pregnancy even evident, when he wrote his will. The Richard who died in 1547 left a bequest to his godson Richard, son of John, but nothing to John - I think most likely because John had died. With this John naming his father as Richard he fits here neatly, if he did have a son.
