Shown as aged 57 years, abode West Teignmouth. The fact that the age at burial matches that of this Mary makes me think the burial probably was of this Mary, but I haven't studied the Heaths enough to know the ages of others in the area at this time.
A study of the Heaths and / or purchase of the death certificate should provide greater certainty.

It is clear that it was this William who married Johanna Bennett, as he was still living when his sister Elizabeth wrote her will in 1827, and she named him and also named several of his children.

      "William Heath and Mary Gotham"
No parish shown in the banns register for either of the couple; was the priest just slack about recording the information (the name of the person who published the banns is also missing), or does this imply both were otp?
Did this marriage take place? - the baptism in 1807 and the absence of a marriage record in West Teignmouth suggest not, but of course the marriage could have occurred elsewhere.
It may be that I am attaching the banns to the wrong Mary. A 25 year old baptised in West Teignmouth seems most likely but there was also a 45 year old Mary baptised in the parish or it could be a Mary from another parish.
Was William Heath the father of Sarah (and maybe Mary Ann) - or was he not the father and did Mary's pregnancy becoming apparent make him change his mind. Did he meet with an accident before the marriage could take place?

Some answers we will probably never know, some may become apparent with more research.

    Married
    • Although there were banns of marriage for William and Mary in West Teignmouth in 1806, I can find no marriage for them recorded in either East or West Teignmouth.
However, short pieces which appeared in newspapers about this Mary's nephew (Thomas) Edwin Goatham towards the end of his life and after his death mention him having an aunt, Mary Heath, a boatwoman. There were also baptisms in both East and West Teignmouth that would fit as children of this couple. In addition, and more conclusively, her aunt Elizabeth Gotham when referring to the children of her (Elizabeth's) brother William in her will includes a Mary Heath.

Marriage usually followed soon after banns but did not in this case. Did William get cold feet? Did they fall out? Maybe someone objected to the banns - was William already married to someone else? Did he discover that Mary was pregnant by another man? Certainly Mary had a daughter, Sarah, baptised about a year after the banns were read, and baptised as a Gotham, and illegitimate. However, the register includes a date of birth: 8 Jun 1807. Assuming that is correct, Mary would not have been pregnant with Sarah when the banns were read.
Whatever the reason, and whether or not they married at some point they do seem to have lived together as man and wife.
Children followed from 1810, who were baptised as Heaths with both parents named in the baptism register.
Maybe they had married but the priest forgot to enter the marriage in the register.
Another possible missing entry is the baptism for a son Thomas. One Thomas Heath was with Mary's daughter Mary Ann and her husband at the time of the 1841 census, listed between them and Elizabeth, who fits as William and Mary Ann's daughter. Also present, though, were 3 cousins of Mary Ann, children of Mary's sister Patience; it is possible that Thomas was also a cousin, but on William's side. However, his rounded down age of 25 does mean that he would fit in neatly as a child of William and Mary, filling the unusually large gap between daughters Sophia and Elizabeth.
