    Farmer
    • While James and Ann's children baptised 1800 - 1810 were baptised at Walkhampton, Sheepstor and Whitchurch, those baptised from 1812 on were baptised in Sampford Spiney. But he does not appear to have spent the whole time in Sampford Spiney in one location. At some time between 1817 and 1837 he seems to have moved from Derbyshire to Holetown.
(Holetown is shown with him as 'occupier' at the time of the tithe apportionment - 1841, Halltown as his home in the 1841 census, and his mother-in-law died at Hilltown in 1837 - I believe all 3 refer to the same location as the censuses only have entries for one of them).

At the time his daughter Barbara in 1840 married James was described as farmer.
Occupation 1851  Eastontown, Sampford Spiney, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    Farmer
    • In the 1851 census Thomas Andrews was shown at "Eastentown No. 1" with James Northmore and his household were at "Eastentown No. 2".
This may have been where his son Samuel had been living in 1841. However, James had not retired (he was 75) or become an ag. lab. but was shown as a farmer of 40 acres.
Living with him and his wife were 2 servants - a femal one, Tamsin, Budin, aged 27 - no indication of whether she worked on house or farm, I would guess she would have helped with "female" farm work - in the dairy while the other servant, 17 year old James Short, was shown as an ag labourer so it appears James Northmore did have help with the farming.
